Soooo…. We FAILED at the carnivore diet!

Actually, my hubby gave up on day 9 and I was happy to join him in quitting!
The experience itself was interesting and a growth experience for me. I’m am actually glad I did it! But, as I suspected, the carnivorous life is not for me.
At first, I felt hungry a lot. I was, generally, in a good mood all day. I had a lot of extra energy. I’m surprised at how much I enjoyed the animal products, since I’m generally pretty picky about meat. I thoroughly enjoyed eating goat, a meat that I usually can only tolerate a few bites of. I voraciously ate eggs, when normally they always kinda gross me out.
In case you’re curious, here’s what a typical day on the carnivore diet looks like:
Breakfast: Coffee with butter and heavy cream, eggs and bacon
Lunch: Hamburger patty with cheese and bacon
Snack: Pork rinds dipped in sour cream
Dinner: Curried goat, smoked pork or steak with a side of sausage or ground beef

I transitioned from the carnivore diet into a 30 day detox diet: No dairy, gluten, grains, soy, processed foods, sugar, high carb foods, caffeine or any substance that alters mood, such as alcohol. It’s, essentially, a whole foods diet that our ancestors would have eaten. Along with this diet, I’ve followed a daily detox protocol, using a variety of methods to assist in the natural detoxification process facilitated by the diet.
Detoxification is the process of removing harmful substances (toxins) from the body. The human body has natural detoxification mechanisms, primarily through the liver, kidneys, and intestines.
Liver: Metabolizes and breaks down toxins.
Kidneys: Excrete toxins through urine.
Intestines: Eliminate toxins through feces.
Beyond physiological detoxification, there are various practices that can enhance detoxification:
Juice cleanses
Colonic irrigation
Dandelion root tea
Bentonite clay
Baking soda
Oil pulling
Coffee enemas
Saunas and steam rooms
Herbal cleanses
Interval exercise
Fulton and humic acid
Tongue scraping
Dry brushing
Lymph massage
Vinegar tonics
Fasting

There are many benefits of detoxing:
Increased energy and alertness
Stimulation and detoxification of congested bile ducts supporting the liver
Parasite and yeast elimination
Removal of gallbladder sludge and stones
Improvement of digestion
Weight loss
Healthier hair and skin
Improved mood
Anti-aging
Improved sleep
Improved immune function
But, there are also some temporary side effects:
Fatigue
Bloating
Skin eruptions
Headache
Nausea
Increased symptoms of anxiety, depressed mood, or feeling emotional or “off”
I was surprised by how many of the negative detox symptoms I experienced! I thought my terrain was pretty damn clean! But, now on the other side of the side effects - I’m feeling so many of the benefits!
To be continued….
