Your Turn-On Is Your Responsibility: How Everyday Pleasure Can Transform Your Sex Life
What if your sex life had less to do with what you do in bed and more to do with how you live your entire life?
We tend to think of turn-on as something that happens to us.
Our partner says the right thing.
Touches us the right way.
Looks at us a certain way.
We finally get a babysitter.
The kids go to bed early.
The conditions are right...and then, in a timely fashion, we're supposed to feel turned on.
But, I'll venture to say usually, you just aren't.
You can't spend all day abandoning your body and expect it to show up at 10 PM
This is especially relevant for mothers.
We can spend our entire day in output mode:
Serving.
Managing.
Scheduling.
Working.
Cleaning.
Driving.
Solving everyone's problems.
We're constantly asking, What's next? Who needs me? What needs to get done?
And then, after 14 hours of doing, we're expected to magically shift into a juicy, receptive, embodied sexual experience because the children are finally asleep.
But our bodies don't work that way.
You can't spend 14 hours abandoning your body and expect it to be ready for pleasure at the drop of a hat.
There needs to be a transition from doing into opening and receiving.
And, lets be real, we don't have 2 hours for warming up after the kids get to bed!
So, instead of waiting until bedtime to make that transition, what if we practiced throughout the entire day?
Pleasure is in the little things
Pleasure doesn't have to mean sex.
It doesn't even have to mean something particularly exciting.
It can be the smell of clean laundry.
Warm water and your favorite dish soap.
The first bite of a beautiful meal.
Sunlight on your skin.
Bare feet on the earth.
Soft clothing against your body.
Music that makes your hips move.
Every time we slow down enough to notice and receive pleasure, we're practicing our capacity for pleasure.
Instead of rushing through the experience, we savor it.
Instead of immediately asking, What's next? we allow ourselves to be right where we are.
Presence. Curiosity. Openness. Receptivity. Embodiment.
A sensual woman isn't necessarily sexually aroused all day long.
She's awake.
She's inhabiting her body.
She's available to experience life.
She's connected to her eros: that vital life force, that aliveness that is so closely connected to our erotic energy.
And that aliveness can naturally spill over into sexuality.
Allow yourself to be moved by life.
Cultivate the conditions for your own aliveness.
Then bring that aliveness into your relationship.
Your Pleasure Practice
For the next week, I invite you to try three simple practices.
1. Notice five pleasurable moments every day.
They don't need to be big.
Ask yourself:
What feels good right now?
What smells good?
What tastes good?
What sounds beautiful?
What sensation am I enjoying?
Slow down enough to actually receive it.
And don't make it productive.
You don't need to photograph it.
You don't need to share it.
You don't need to monetize it.
Just let yourself have the pleasure.
2. Take 5–15 minutes every day for intentional self-care.
Choose something that's just for you.
Something that feels good.
A bath.
A walk.
Yoga.
Tea.
Reading.
Dancing.
A massage.
Whatever makes your body say, yes.
3. Dance to one song every day.
Put on music that makes you feel alive.
And let your body move however she wants to move.
No performance.
Just pleasure.
One song. That's it.
Or you can come dance with me inside Ecstatic Life Academy!
We meet online every week for playful, embodied ecstatic dances where you can reconnect with your body, move freely, and experience the magic of dancing in community with other women. 💛
Start cultivating your aliveness now.
Because your pleasure belongs to you.
