Body Language and it’s Profound Messages

March 28, 20253 min read

Body language is often thought of as the non-verbal cues we pick up on during conversations with others. But what if I told you that body language holds deeper, more personal insights that can significantly impact your life? I sat down with Kelly Love, a specialist in somatic embodied healing who uses body language to facilitate deep growth, and she taught me how learning the language of the body can make your life more ecstatic.

At its core, body language reading involves tuning into the subtle messages our bodies communicate. Every muscle, joint, and movement carries a story of our emotional and physical experiences. By understanding these signals, we can uncover unresolved trauma and emotional blockages, paving the way for healing and personal growth.

listen to your body

Kelly gave me some amazing insights on reading your own body language:

  • Listen to Your Body: Begin with a mindful examination of where you feel tension, discomfort, or ease in your body. Each feeling has an emotional correlation that can reveal much about your internal state.

  • Muscle Awareness: Are your muscles consistently tense? This can indicate unresolved stress or the need for protection. Alternatively, soft or weak muscles might suggest a need for emotional support and grounding.

  • Joint Movement: Pay attention to how your joints move. Restricted movement can point to areas where you may feel stuck in life or where you're holding back.

  • Energy Flow: Consider how energy moves through your body. Yoga and other physical practices can help you observe where energy flows freely and where it feels blocked.

  • Alignment Check: Aligning your feet and body posture can give physical and symbolic support in aligning with your life’s purpose and direction.

Understanding your body language is not just an analytical exercise; it's deeply therapeutic. It allows for self-compassion, helping you to validate and process past experiences that have shaped you. By acknowledging and working through this physical narrative, you create room for healing and transformation. This process empowers you to get in touch with your authentic self, promoting mental and emotional well-being.

Investing time in understanding your body’s language can lead to a life filled with more joy and ease. It helps you align with your true desires, enhance your relationships, and live more intentionally. By addressing and resolving internal conflicts reflected in your body, you open up a path to freedom and fulfillment.

Steps to Read Your Own Body

  1. Check Your Posture: Regularly stand and check if your body alignment feels natural and balanced. Are your muscles holding tension? Where do you feel the weight in your body?

  2. Dig into Discomfort: Whenever you notice discomfort, probe deeper. Ask yourself what emotions or situations might be linked to these feelings.

  3. Track Physical Changes: Notice any changes in your physical state, such as sudden aches or skin changes, and explore their potential emotional triggers.

By adopting these practices, you nurture a deeper connection to your physical and emotional self, setting the stage for an ecstatic life where you are truly attuned to your body’s wisdom. Remember, every movement and feeling is a dialogue between your soul and your body, inviting you to lean in and listen.
